It may be something shipped to an OEM who needs to test a fix for his hardware or software. This is done to test a specific fix - not meant for a broad public consumption. 1.) Compile the build 2.) Pre tests 3.) Stress tests 4.) specific test to see if new components fix issues they're working on internally 5.) get approval 6.) distribute through regular channels. For interim builds it's not such a big production. 6 - 11 above mostly cost money, time and resources. 6.) Rent servers, buy enough pipes to handle the bandwidth 7.) Put it up on the servers, 8.) Test, and retest servers 9.) debug as needed 10.) leak release date a week early to get the buzz going 11.) release and hope the servers and pipes don't melt. 1.) Compile the build 2.) Pre tests 3.) Stress tests 4.) more automated tests 5.) get stamp of approval. prep for a major release like Build 70 had to go quite a bit. WHat would it really take to put the new ISO online? From what I've heard it's not quite such an easy thing. So if there is a new build, why can't we download it and try it too? Id like to see if they fixed any issues that I had. I’m betting the “launch” will be November 2009." November or late November, the launch for the market ("General Availability") seems to target on X-mas sells which sounds pretty logical. Fits perfectly with what Mary-Jo Foley wrote (): " If I assume PC makers might only need two months or so (given that the Win 7 code base doesn’t include a bunch of major changes like Vista’s did) - and a recent Acer exec’s slip-up claiming Acer would be able to ship new PCs preloaded with Windows 7 by late October 2009 - I’d say Windows 7 looks like it could RTM by late August or early September. As there must be a time for system builders (OEMs) to assure Win7-compatibility to their products, you can conclude that a RTM (i call it pre-release but "that's only words.") would be delivered to them around September/October. What are we talking about? I said MS (in a Tech.Ed keynote) announced the shipping of Win7 to the public within 2009, around holidays.
